Spring 2024 GAP Try-On Haul
I needed a few Spring things to include both in my personal capsule and styling capsules (that I use as guidance for my social and capsule posts).
As a GAP gal who recently learned how to stack discount codes, I hopped online to grab a few basics and fun items.
I love testing my personal style and fashion boundaries and a couple of pieces I picked up here did just that!
And yes, I tried skinny Jeans! The AUDACITY. I needed a bottom to wear with my taller boots, as relying on tights, leggings and dresses was a bit tiring. So a slimmer pair was in order! And why not grab them on sale?
Spring Styles From GAP – What I Love and Returned
(This post includes affiliate links)
For reference, I’m 5’5” and a size 4. I ordered S for tops and dresses and sizes 4 and 27 regular for pants and jeans. See what I kept/returned. I rounded prices in Canadian dollars.
Because retailers like GAP change their discounts and pricing regularly, these prices might not be what they’re currently sold at.
Organic Cotton Vintage Crewneck T-Shirts $12
Simple, cute and basic. I don’t have crew neck tees in either tan or a simple stripe. The material is a bit thinner than expected, but perfect for spring and as a layering piece for cooler days.
The full 100% organic cotton material, loose fit, decent neckline and price sold me!

Kensational Barbie Graphic T-Shirt $15
Yes, tie-dye is dated, but Barbie is going strong, and the 100% cotton material had me give it a try. It looked so great on the model so I had to try it out. It’s a great, thick cotton material, with a men’s S fit.
I considered keeping it as a spring/summer pj top, or park playdate tee, but decided against it. That said, I find it on clearance again, I might give it another go!

Modern Tank Tops – $12 each
I’m missing ribbed cotton tanks in my closet and these were pretty colors! Not 100% cotton, but the 58% with a modal softness and elastam stretch were good.
These stretch A LOT, so I would size down. I’m a GAP S, and a large S, almost M In other retailer, but these fit more like a big S. And are waaay long, but easy enough to fold into a high waisted jean.
Even a bit loose, I like the comfy fit, which hides my squishy middle. These will be great to layer under jackets, and sweaters come Fall.
✔️Kept in all colors
Dark Brown Basic Cami $10
Brown’s a color I used to shy away from, but this shade looks great against my skin and I can always use more layering pieces! 95% cotton with some stretch, adjustable straps and a nice hand feel.
The only thing missing is a built-in bralette.

365 High Rise Pleated Trousers $51
I LOVE olive green and loved these pants online. I ordered in a size 4, but they were a bit too wide in the waist, considering they have an elastic waist at the back. I believe I have these same or similar ones in black.
The crotch area also puffed out a bit as I move around (clearly seen in my Instagram video) and would have needed a hem. With the 100% polyester material too, it wasn’t giving for spring.
I would rather find an olive pant in an ankle length for spring in a cotton or mix linen material. So I’ll be on the lookout for those!
Update: I did repurchase these in a size XS. See my review & try on of 5 different olive green pants in my latest post!

High Rise Vintage Slim Jeans $32
My foray into skinny jeans (my knee-high boots don’t fit over my wide leg jeans!). Some of my clients like their slimmer jeans, so these are perfect for showing off outfit pairings. There are many ways to make slim or even skinny jeans look current and stylish and I’ll be working on such a post soon.
These jeans fit me perfectly and have enough give to be comfy for everyday wear. They are not true skinny jeans as they don’t tighten at the ankles, which makes them a perfect slim jean vs. a more date true skinny jean. They are true to my size 27 jeans.

Mid Rise True Skinny Jeans $40
Jeans can be finicky and my body shape sometimes works with certain styles and not with others, so I wanted 2 slim jean choices to try for this online shopping trip so to speak.
This pair fits half to a full size small and was just too tight and uncomfortable. It’s great to pull over high boots, but they are just too dang uncomfortable.

Denim Vest $37
Vests are in for Spring/Summer this year and I wanted in. First up, the denim style. I would have preferred a darker denim wash, but this one matches well with other denim that I own, so no biggie.
I love the fit, which is just snug enough and longer on the torso. This in contrast to other denim vests I’ve seen this season that is too cropped for my personal liking.
It’ll look great with double denim (or triple denim!) looks, and can be worn open over t-shirts and dresses. Can’t wait to style this one!
✔️Keeps
Linen-Cotton Vest $39
My second vest was this linen cotton number, which appears to be the same base pattern as the denim one.
I love me some olive green, and I couldn’t resist another structured vest in this linen blend. Although I ordered a small, it fit really loose. I’m guessing this thinner material didn’t hold up like the denim did.
However, it’s perfect if you’re looking to wear over a shirt or tee, but definitely needs to be a size down to wear it on its own.
I may look for it in an XS if it goes on sale again, because it was decently made to warrant the $39 price tag. *Update: I bought it again on sale in an XS and it’s perfect!

Pink Tie-Knot Mini T-shirt Dress $32
This is MY pink–the pink that is completely brightens my face and makes me so happy. I’m saying this as a stylist who doesn’t abide by color seasons! Love the 100% linen material and drapey top and large knot to hide my middle section.
Sadkt, it was just far too tight on my protruding bum and sadly, and transparent enough to show my nude underwear. I considered hemming it into a top, but I don’t have time for that. A bigger size would have been too large up top, so sadly just not the right fit for me.
✖️Returned
Polkadot Linen Blend Button Midi Dress $42
I’m huge on prints and polkadots and the natural material linen blend made me add to cart. Now this style of dress is not really my thing, with it’s puffed sleeves and flared skirt. It’s to ‘romantic’ and ‘girly’ of a styl.
But don’t knock it ’till you try it, because even at my ripe old age of 40 something, it just works. It’ll be a fun dress to wear with a jacket–denim or blazer–kitten heel black sandals or white sneakers. And it makes me happy and confident, which is the true test of whether an item should stay or go.
Perfect for hotter days for it’s slightly loose fit and breathable fabric.

Satin Midi Slip Dress $32
I’ve been looking to buy a slip dress in black or a slip skirt in a silk fabric. But full price of silk these days is rather extravagant. Not to mention the ease with which silk stains and I’m a messy mom, so no way.
I really thought this would not fit me, or show off all the wrong curves in the wrong places, but I was fully mistaken. The bias cut on this dress is incredibly flattering on my hourglass body and I can see this on all body types, really.
And even though it’s a poly material, it’s thick, slinkly and wonderful. Not all polyester is made the same and I just love this one.
I feel like a goddess in this dress and a black slip dress is a perfect staple for so many wardrobes no matter the style. Can’t wait to wash and wear!

Striped Split-Hem Crew Neck Sweater $41
A striped white/black sweater is a staple that just gives over and over and one of my capsule favorites. I have an oversized black/white striped cashmere sweater for winter and though a spring one was in order.
This sweater has the perfect stripes, off white color and I love the split hem. The fit is rather large and the length doesn’t work for my height. Maybe a smaller size would be better.
The knit of this material was not great. The collar has some hickups and the sleeves werent’ particularly well sewn. Maybe it was just this one.
With that and the too-large fit, I don’t think it’s worth the $.
✖️Planning to Return
Cropped Striped Crew Neck Sweater $43
I had been eyeing this black/camel striped sweater and I include a version of this in my relaxed capsules. I’m even included it in my Spring 2024 relaxed capsule wardrobe, which will be out very soon!
It’s a snugger and cropped version of the black/white one I tried before and a much better fit for me. Loose but not unkempt. I love that it’s 100% cotton, and I don’t have many of these in my closet.
I’m disappointed that the color is lighter than expected and closer to beige than camel. But it’s still cute and a perfect way to showcase my relaxed capsules to those who want styling inspo!
