Denim Skirt with Sneakers + Basic Tee or Tank

I started with sporty denim skirt looks with chunkier sneakers and basic tees, because a lot of people don’t like them. That’s because they’re not styled right!

You want a well-fitting tee in a neutral shade. Tucked in will elevate the outfit and cinch the waist.

Keep your sneakers clear and fresh looking, and adding a complimenting white of off-white crew socks will add a sporty and updated touch–and make your sneakers look less chunky, especially if you have slim ankles/calves.

I am wearing 2 New Balance sneakers above: the 990 V6s (reviewed in this article), and the NB 9060s.

Elevate your look with a trendy shoulder bag, like I did up on the right, or keep things sporty with a tech material cross-body. Add a cap for an extra athleisure feel, or just because you’re having a bad hair day!

For less sporty and more day-to-day look, try a low profile sleek sneakers like my Puma Classic suede sneakers above, or similar style. And ditch the socks if it’s not your thing!

Add a fitted tank or tee, and belt the denim skirt for a more put-together look. Match the belt to the main tone of your bag. In my case, I matched the tan handles of the leopard tote to a similar tone in the belt.

Make it a Set with Double Denim

Since matching coordinating sets and all denim looks are trending right now, why not put them all together?

Reach for a similar blue-toned denim vest or corset, and match your accessories for a simple, but chic denim on denim look.

Or, choose a matching denim shirt or jacket to layer over a tee, tank or button-down shirt. You can play with neutrals or colors, depending on your style. I like color, so I added my green Adidas Gazelle bold sneakers and a hot pink tee.

Or, you can rock your denim skirt with a patchwork style corset, jacket or contrasting denim or chambray shirt!

With Colorful Graphic Tees

Graphic tees are another hot fashion item, although if you ask me, they always have a place in everyone’s wardrobe no matter what is currently trending.

Also, they’re part of one of my heatwave outfit formulas to hide any dampness–thanks to the print!

There are many ways to style your denim skirt outfit with a graphic tee: you can tuck it in, or leave an oversize one fall over your skirt.

You can add casual slides like these PVC Birkenstock-like sandals, choose a sleek leather sandal or put on a pair of flats. I suggest matching your shoes and handbag to a color in your t-shirt.

You can even wear your graphic band tee with your denim skirt casually or elevated, which you will see in the next section, below.

If you like a black and white or more edgy look, denim skirts can easily help with your rock styling.

Black GG star sneakers (reviewed here) and a striped tee are my go-to and, frankly, a great outfit formula with any bottom to make your look a little rock ‘n roll. Makes a great rock concert outfit!

You can also elevate your denim skirt with heels and a black quilted purse for an evening out.

With Heels for A Night Out

Denim skirt outfits can be more than just casual! Whether for date night or a girls night out, or just to look chic to lunch, you can’t beat denim skirt with a fitted black top, black heels and gold-detailed accessories!

For summer, go for a tight black tank, strappy top or satin slip tank for a fancier look.

Choose dainty heels like my kitten heel sandals with a small black clutch or handbag. Belt it with a thin black belt.

If there’s any hardware on your accessories, make sure the metallic tone matches. My belt buckle and purse hardware are both gold, as is my jewelry.

The all black elements and matching gold added touches all tie in together for a harmonious and sleek denim skirt look.
